Calculations

Following the National Curriculum for Maths we teach children to complete Maths calculations in a progressive and structured way. At Pitmaston we have adopted the White Rose scheme of work and this ensures our teaching of calculations is supported through the manipulation of concrete resources (Numicon, bead strings, Unifix cube and number lines). These are readily available to the children every lesson as part of the Maths toolkits.

The structured approach to developing written calculations can found detailed in the White Rose documents below. These enable children, by the end of Key Stage 2, to successfully add, subtract, divide and multiply integers, fractions and decimals confidently and efficiently.
