Year 4

In these unprecedented times where we find schools are closed, we have put together some recommended websites and educational activities for parents to complete with their child/ren. We have provided each child with an exercise book to record their learning and we look forward to making time to share the children’s learning when we return to school.

Please also refer to your year group curriculum map

A number of educational websites have made their content available for home use over the next few months. Many of them have easy to find year 4 resources that you can use with your child to support their learning from home.

Websites that are currently free to use:

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/t2-m-2148-year-4-spring-1-maths-activity-mats (interactive pack with daily challenges).

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/   (Weekly Maths activities)

As well as these websites, we have attached a number of specific activities to support children’s learning.

Maths:

  • Please find on the website an example of our daily 10 question calculation table. This can be used as a model for you to practise these 10 calculations further with your child – everyday would be amazing! Your child should be encouraged to use the formal written methods (which can be found on our website / maths / calculation policy) for every calculation. Please record these in the exercise book provided
  • All times tables up to 12 x 12 should be secure by the end of year
  • Remember there are a range of websites that children can use to practise these tables such as: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/7-11-years/times-tables
  • This website offers a speed test which is similar to the year 4 national statutory tables check which pupils complete in the summer: https://www.timestables.co.uk/

Reading:

  • Please continue to read with your child at least 5 times a week
  • Enjoy reading for pleasure with your child and remember to ask lots of questions about the book and the characters, plot, possible endings, the setting
  • Complete the comprehension tasks.
  • Remember there are free e-books available on websites such as – https://www.tckpublishing.com/free-ebooks-for-kids/

Writing:

  • There are a range of writing opportunities attached that children can complete together with an adult or independently
  • Please encourage your child to write at any other opportunities e.g. keep a diary, write letters to their class friends, write a story, make a fact file

Topic:

Our next topic is the Rainforest. Could you research to find the answer to these questions?

  • Where in the world would you find rainforests?
  • What creatures live in the rainforest?
  • Who lives in the rainforest?
  • Why are the rainforests in danger?
  • What do we need rainforests for? Use these websites to help you:

We hope you enjoy completing these activities with your child/ren and wish you and your family’s good health over the coming weeks.

Thank you for your continued support,
