Year 3
In these unprecedented times where we find schools are closed, we have put together some recommended websites and educational activities for parents to complete with their child/ren. We have provided each child with an exercise book to record their learning and we look forward to making time to share the child/ren’s learning when we return to school.

About Us/Our Classes/Year 3/Spring 1
A number of educational websites have made their content available for home use over the next few months. Many of them have easy to find year 3 resources that you can use with your child to support their learning from home.
Websites that are currently free to use:
https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/year-5-school-closure-interactive-learning-links-t-e-2549923 (interactive pack with daily challenges).
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize
https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/ (Weekly Maths activities)
As well as these websites, we have attached a number of specific activities to support child/ren’s learning.
Maths:
- You will find on the website the arithmetic challenges that child/ren complete daily. This can be used as a model for you to practice these 10 calculations further with your child – everyday would be amazing, the child/ren are familiar with the methods to use! Your child should be encouraged to use the formal written methods (which can be found on our website / maths / calculation policy) for every calculation. Please record these in the exercise book.
- The 2, 5, 3, 4, 8 and 10 timestables should be practised regularly.
- Remember there are a range of websites that child/ren can use to practice these tables such as:
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/7-11-years/times-tables
https://www.timestables.co.uk/
- See if you can complete the activity sheets within the link below. You can access more of these and many other maths activities from the Twinkl website.
Reading:
- Please continue to read with your child at least 5 times a week.
- Enjoy reading for pleasure with your child and remember to ask lots of questions about the book and the characters, plot, possible endings, the setting etc.
- Remember there are free e-books available on websites such as – https://www.tckpublishing.com/free-ebooks-for-kids/
Writing:
- There are a range of writing opportunities attached that child/ren can complete together with an adult or independently.
- Use this website to generate ideas for writing using a picture. https://www.onceuponapicture.co.uk/
- Please encourage your child to write at any other opportunities e.g. keep a diary, write letters to their class friends, write a story, write a shopping list, make a fact file etc.
Topic: Attached is a learning log that child/ren are to complete. The topic mats that were sent home previously will support your child/ren with this.
We hope you enjoy completing these activities with your child/ren and wish you and your family’s good health over the coming weeks.
Thank you for your continued support,
Year 3 Team
